I am absolutely stumped as to achieving those classic white noise filter sweeps I hear during the last 16 bars before a major breakdown or building up to a major climax in a track. I am playing around with filter cut offs and various eq settings in logic, but just cant get the sweep to sit right in the track. It sounds so superficial, as if it is floating above the rest of the elements rather then that building up subtly from within and bellowing out at its peak. If any one has suggestions on what plugins to use or what eq setting to apply, I would be very great full.
Thanks to all

hm .. ok, keep in mind to mix it loud, if it should lead to an climax. i would recommend u to use an sidechain-compression on it, where the kick ducks the sweeped-noise. so u dont loose to much energy by the whitenoise.. just look at the following instruction video by freemasons and u will see waht i mean .. they use a sidechain-compression on every single track and they also discover how to set this compressor proper video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5381286599211691714i would do an additional efx like delay's and room-fx on it, or phasing efx.. if the white noise sit to much in the middle i would try a light chorus-efx on it , but that's it .. Cheers Mate

Maybe Mr. Axwell could shed some light to this subject. His tracks always have sweeps that just induce so much energy and a sense of change.
Check out the Arrangement Part 1 with Steve Angello on google video and pay attention to what he does with a reverb to create a sweep.
But, yes more help on this topic is in order!

Cheers Mate Thanks for the info. Its helped allot. Now that you mention adding effects, I have began to notice allot of flangering and panning along with the techniques you mentioned in many of the tracks I refer to for examples. Do you know of any resources for more instruction on this specific style of dance music production? Trial and error seems to be my only means of educating myself but I may be over looking more structured ways to learn.. Thanks again for your suggestions. -Alex

There are loads of samples out there to begin with or just like u use white noise. It's always a good idea to use pink instead of white noise because of the frequency content and apply filter to get it 'white'. Also don't use JUST noise, a good synth sound pitch sweeped as a layer give youi lots of options to color it. Then here the important bit: Make sure you use an insane amount of really clean reverb and a delay where the feedback is rising as the sweep evolves...
maybe a flanger or phaser on one of the layers can give you a bit more movement.
Good luck
